Motion 0.4 · Linux and Windows · Android coming soon
Wallpapers that move, and the studio to make them.
Motion plays animated wallpapers on your desktop and your phone. Each wallpaper is a scene: a file you can download, make and publish. Motion Studio is where you make your own: layers, keyframes, effects, scripts and shaders, played by the same engine as the wallpaper.
KDE Plasma · GNOME · Sway, Hyprland and other Linux desktops · Windows 10 and 11 · Android: coming soon to Google Play

Comes with Motion
Twenty scenes to start with. Or make your own.
Drop a video or a picture on Motion and that's a scene too. Videos decode on the GPU.

Gradients, a nebula and stars, drifting at three depths round a warm magenta heart.

A rose and an ice-blue spiral falling into each other.

Jellyfish swimming in the dark, from an animated 3D model.

A neon harbour in the rain, with its own sound and a bell.

A field of lava from above, crust and glowing cracks and rivers.
Motion Studio
Build a scene out of layers. See it as it'll play.
The preview in Studio is the wallpaper's own engine, so what you see is what your desktop gets.
- 60 kinds of layerGradients, aurora, particles, 3D, text and clocks, video, web pages, your own shaders.
- 56 effects, keyframes and masksBlur, glow, colour grading and film looks on any layer, moved on a timeline.
- Logic and materialsScripts in JavaScript or TypeScript, or nodes if you'd rather not type. Shaders in code or in nodes too.

Light on your hardware
It stops when you can't see it.
On integrated graphics
Most scenes cost a millisecond or two of an Intel laptop's GPU.
When it's covered
A window over the whole screen pauses it. On battery too, if you want.
Unless you ask for more
One clock drives everything. When nothing moves, nothing is drawn.
