Challenges, jams and events
Every so often Motion Hub sets a theme and a few weeks to make a scene for it. You enter what you make, see what others made, and look out for the team's picks. There are no prizes: it's for the fun of it. Live streams and meetups are listed beside them.
Challenges
Challenges lists them under On now, Coming up and Past. A challenge's page has its theme, its dates, the tag its entries get, and sometimes a Starter scene to remix and Tutorials that help from Learn.
A challenge is Coming up until it starts, then Open for entries until its entries close, then Closed. A jam has a Voting time in between.
Entering
- Make a scene for the theme and publish it for everyone to see (public, not a draft).
- On the challenge's page, click Enter a scene.
- Pick your scene and click Enter.
You can enter a scene you published after the challenge started, or a remix of its starter scene if it has one. Scenes from before it can't be entered, so old work doesn't come round again. You can enter up to 3 scenes in each challenge. Entries get the challenge's tag, so search finds them all, and the scene's page says which challenge it's in.
While entries are open you can Withdraw an entry. The scene itself stays.
Picks
The Hub's team marks the entries they like as Picked. You're told when one of yours is, and the scene's page shows it.
Jams
A jam is a challenge that's scored. Once entries close, voting opens, and each entry is scored 1 to 5 on each of the jam's criteria (what's scored is on its page under How it's judged, and doesn't change once voting opens). Either judges chosen by the team vote, or the entrants do. Nobody scores their own scenes.
To vote, open the jam during voting and go to Score the entries. The Hub hands you a few entries at a time, at random from those with the fewest votes, so every entry is looked at about as often. Score each one and click Vote. You vote once on each entry, and a vote can't be changed. The page counts how many you've scored, and says when you've scored every entry you can.
When voting closes, the Results show on the jam's page, in order, each with its score and how many votes it had. The place is from an average that leans towards the jam's overall average when an entry has only a few votes, so one high score from one person doesn't put a scene first. An entry with too few votes is listed after the rest, unplaced. Every entrant is told how their scenes came.
You can choose which challenge news reaches you in your notification settings.
Live events
Events lists streams and meetups from the Motion team and the community, Coming up and Past, in your own time zone. Each one links out to where it's streamed (such as YouTube or Twitch), to its recording afterwards, and to its thread on the forum. The Hub doesn't play streams itself.
