Versions and their history
Every time you update a scene on Motion Hub it gets a new version, and the scene keeps them all. Its Versions page lists each one with what changed, lets you compare two side by side, and says which Motion releases each works with. Your dashboard shows how each version did.
To publish a new version, see Update a published scene.
The Versions page
Click Versions on a scene's page. Each version shows its number, when it came out and what its maker said changed. The one people get is marked Current; a Draft is one only its maker sees so far. Its maker can also Hide a version, so it's no longer offered, and Show again, or Withdraw one that does harm: Motion Player stops showing a withdrawn version wherever people have it, and it can't be published again.
A withdrawn version stays on the list for everyone, marked Withdrawn, so people can see what happened to it; only its maker can compare it.
Comparing two versions
- On the Versions page, click Compare on one version.
- Click Compare on another. The page says Pick one more version to compare until you have two.
- Click Compare at the top.
The two show side by side: their pictures and clips, their size, how heavy they are to draw (GPU cost), the systems they were tried on, their downloads, how many people said Works for me, and every note of what changed between them. Clear starts again.
Which Motion releases it works with
Each version says which releases of Motion it works with, such as Motion 0.4 and later. At first that's the release that published it and every one after. When Motion Player asks the Hub for a scene, it gets the newest version that works with its own release, so a scene that needs something new in Motion doesn't reach an older Motion that can't play it. That older Motion gets the version before instead.
To change it, click Motion releases on a version, and set its First release and Last release. Leave the first empty for the release it was published with, and the last empty for Any later. Click Save.
Making an older version current
If a new version turns out worse, you don't have to withdraw it. Click Make current on an older version, and people get that one (the page says People get v3 now, for example). Publishing a new version makes the newest current again.
How each version did
The dashboard (Dashboard in your menu) has How people use your scenes:
- Where downloads came from: Discover, search, collections, links from other sites, a page showing the scene inside it, straight to the scene, or Motion Player.
- By system: Windows, Linux, Android and the rest.
- Still opened a week on and Still opened a month on: of the people who downloaded it signed in, how many still open it.
- Each version's effect: opens, and how many people it works for, in the days before and after each new version.
It's counts only, never who. Anything under 10 people isn't shown, and says Fewer than 10.
