Following, collections and picks
Motion Hub is easier to keep up with once you follow the makers and collections you like. This page covers following, the Following page, collections, the scene of the week, embedding a scene on your own site, and a scene's remix tree.
Following
You can follow four things on Motion Hub, each with its own Follow button:
- A maker: on their page, at
/u/and their name. - A collection: on the collection's page.
- A group: on the group's page. Following a group is following its collection. See Co-authors and groups.
- The picks: on the picks page, so you hear of each scene of the week as it starts.
Click Following to stop. Following needs an account. A maker is told when someone follows them, and sees who on their dashboard; everyone else sees only the count on their page. A collection's maker is told who followed it, too.
The Following page
Following, in the Hub's top bar (/hub/following), lists new scenes and devlogs from the makers you follow, newest first. Show more goes further back. If you don't follow anyone yet, Find makers opens the creators' list.
A devlog is a short update a maker posts about what they're making. It's a topic on Motion's forum, in Devlogs, posted as them, where people reply and like it, and it shows on their page too. For a weekly email of someone's devlogs, watch their devlog tag on the forum: Watch on the forum, under their updates. The forum sends those emails itself, and you choose them in its own email preferences (your account page on the Hub has Open the forum to get there).
What reaches you as a notification, and what also comes by email, is under Notifications, then its settings.
Collections
A collection is a list of scenes that go together, made by anyone with an account.
- On a scene's page, click Save.
- Tick one of Your collections, or type a name under New collection and click Make and save.
- Click Done.
On the collection's own page, Edit changes its name, what it's for and Who sees it: Public, Unlisted: only with its link or Private: only you. Order puts its scenes in the order you want, and each scene can have a note. A collection holds up to 500 scenes. Deleting a collection leaves its scenes where they are.
Open all in Motion Player on a collection downloads all its scenes into Motion Player, and offers to play them as a playlist. See Motion Hub in the app.
Scene of the week
Each week the Hub's team picks one scene that shows what Motion can do: well made, pleasant to live with as a wallpaper, trying something new, and running well on ordinary computers and phones. It's on Discover as Scene of the week, with a sentence on why it was picked, and its card and page say Picked.
A pick lasts seven days, or until the next one starts. Every past pick is on the picks page, newest first, under Past picks. Its maker is told when their scene is picked.
Embedding a scene
Share on a scene's page, then Embed, gives you a short piece of code to paste into a page on your own site. It shows the scene's clip, which plays only when someone clicks it, with its maker and a link back to the Hub. Pick Large or Small, then Copy code.
Only scenes for everyone embed. If the scene is taken down, made a draft or rated Mature or Explicit, the embed says it isn't available instead. Sites that read embed links (oEmbed) show it from the scene's address alone.
A scene's remix tree
The Remixes tab on a scene's page shows where it comes from, back to the original it was remixed from, and the scenes remixed from it. A scene you can't see (a draft, taken down, or rated beyond what you've chosen to see) shows as Not available, so the tree keeps its shape without showing it.
